‘Chike and the River’ – A Review

Achebe teaches us very essential life lessons in this book. Chike Anene, is a boy who went from his village in Umuofia to a town, Onitsha.

He expects life to be easier, better and more exciting than what he had in his village. Yet whereas it was easier in some ways, he soon learned that it wasn’t necessarily better.

Chike and the River is a simple, easily-readable and enjoyable book. It is testament to the greatness of Achebe. That he can discuss pertinent matters in Igbo proverbs and again teach us the lessons of contentment, patience, living within your means, and many more, in such a fun manner.
